Staying Organized for Taxes
- Being a traveling professional complicates taxes because you will most likely be filing for several different states each year.
- Keep a running log (we use our G-drives) of important information such as:
- homestead address
- address of each place you’ve lived in the past year with landlord contact info
- address of each place you’ve worked in the past year with supervisor contact info
- inservices/continuing education materials accrued at each contract site
- Keep some receipts on file from purchases you’ve made in the town of your homestead and each other place you’ve lived.
- Keep plane tickets, especially for your travels back to your homestead.
- Keep every receipt that relates to traveling between contracts and that relates to licensure application fees. (this is more for making sure you get the proper reimbursement from your travel company)
