We couldn’t explore Santa Fe for long, as we were passing through on our way back to Las Cruces from northern New Mexico, but we did find some gems in this unique city.
Our first stop was the Santa Fe Plaza where native people sell handcrafted goods. They pretty much arrive whenever they want to, so if this interests you be flexible in your timing. You will also find the Loretto Chapel here, where there’s a spiral staircase with a mystery that you can observe for $4. If you go down pretty much any street off the Plaza, you will find lots of art galleries, high end shops, and restaurants. This area of Santa Fe, and practically all the city, is unique because all the buildings are adobe-style.

Our next stop was Meow Wolf. Sounds funny, right? Well the best way I can explain this is it’s an interactive art exhibit. It is funded by George R. R. Martin. Hundreds of artists took over an old bowling alley and incorporated all sorts of art into this experience for people of all ages. I don’t want to give away too much of this cool experience, but some examples of art include story writing/detective work, interactive musical instruments, secret trap doors, painting, and many other forms! It’s $25 for adults to enter this interactive art exhibit, and we definitely think it’s worth it. We spent about 2.5 hours here, but probably could have delved in even further. Meow Wolf is also working on creating experiences in Las Vegas and Denver by 2020.

After this unique experience, we headed to the Santa Fe Brewing Company. They do not serve food here (food trucks present except on Sundays), but have some really great beers. The Bridge, which is located on the other side of the parking lot from the taproom, is their acting taproom when they do not have outdoor concerts. The whole complex is an awesome indoor/outdoor concert venue with indoor/outdoor bars, indoor/outdoor games (pool, shuffleboard, cornhole), and plenty of sitting and standing room.
