hydration

Having a straw handy to drink at any time while hiking is so convenient and keeps you better hydrated because you can sip as frequently as you want! Our Camelbaks are probably our favorite hiking purchases so far! You can throw these reservoirs in any bag or get a specific Camelbak one like the others we mention on this page.

Many people already have these, but they are a nice general water bottle to have. They don’t leak so you can throw them in any bag without having to worry about orientation. They are a full L, so it’s a good way to store extra water if you need more than what’s in your camelbak reservoir. The cap includes a strong loop, so they can be easily attached to a bag or carabiner. They can handle either cold or hot liquids. When winter camping, I have actually put boiling water in one and then threw it in my sleeping bag by my feet to help stay warm. They are very durable and we have never seen one break!

Adam and I both have Camelbaks that we highly recommend! I have a Rogue with a 2L reservoir. It’s the perfect day pack because it’s nice and light, so I hardly notice I’m hiking with anything. There are two small pockets big enough to fit valuables, kleenex, and some snacks.

Adam has the Skyline with a 3L reservoir. His bag is bigger, so he can fit sunscreen, bigger snacks, a light jacket, etc. in his. The weight of his bag rides a little bit lower which may be more comfortable for some people’s backs.

If you want something similar to a Camelbak, but don’t want to spend a lot of money for the brand, you can try a KUYOU hydration pack. We don’t have these, but my sister and her husband do, and they mentioned this hydration pack has worked great for use during hiking.

Camelbaks are an awesome piece of gear to have while hiking, but if you don’t take proper care of them, they can get nasty and unusable pretty quickly. Our best piece of advice is to store your camelbak reservoir in the freezer, so nothing weird can grow in it. We also purchased a Camelbak Cleaning Kit that we use to clean our reservoirs every couple uses. The kit includes special brushes to reach every corner of the reservoir and straw, cleaning tablets for extreme cases, and a hanger/spacer to help the reservoir dry out completely.

This water/beer/hot chocolate/coffee/tea liter container is awesome! It truly keeps things the same temperature for hours! We use it daily at work and for adventures! It is quite robust and the loop on the cap is nice for easy transport without taking up room in your pack.
