free travel and pt apps

AllTrails

This is our favorite app! You can look up pretty much any trail you want on this app! You can even search an area and it will list the top trails. It lets you know the distance, elevation, best times of year, special equipment needed, etc. for any trail! And then one of our favorite parts is the comment section because you can read what other people who have hiked that trail think and any tips they have. If you have service, you can record during your hike and it'll let you know where you are along the trail. If you pay extra for pro, you can even use this feature offline.

ParkMobile

This is a great app for city exploring! Parking can be stressful and expensive, but with this app, you can compare parking garage prices ahead of time and reserve a spot before you even get somewhere. This way you don't waste time circling your destination looking for an open spot and you do not have to make a quick judgement call and over pay.

ExpertVoice

This is an app where you can get great deals if you're a physical therapist, fitness instructor, some sort of outdoor professional, etc. They have lots of categories, so check to see if whatever you're an expert on counts! They will have you send in your credentials (i.e. badge providing I'm a PT) and then you'll be able to choose six categories that you're an expert in! The idea is that you will help promote brands as an expert in the field. We chose things such as shoe wear, camping, fitness, etc. and now we have access to crazy deals! Our best purchase so far has been scoring a backpacking Big Agnes tent for almost half price!

APTA Action

If you are a physical therapist and want to be more active on the advocacy front, this app can be helpful! You can stay up-to-date on current advocacy topics, contact your legislators, and even get some talking points via this app!

MedBridge

This is a great app for PTs, OTs, SLPs, etc. if you have a MedBridge subscription. And if you don't have a MedBridge subscription, you should get one! It's a few hundred dollars a year and many employers will pay for it. It gives you access to continuing ed on your own time and is a great portal for home exercise programs. The app makes continuing ed extra accessible, so you can throw on headphones and learn anywhere!

Kayak

Kayak is our favorite flight searcher! You can type in your desired destination and dates and they will recommend whether it is a good time to buy or wait. If it’s not a good time to buy, you can ask for email updates to snag the best price!

Uber

We are sure most people know Uber exists by now, but this is such a great and easy app! After walking and public transportation, we have found this to be the cheapest way to get around. You can also save a little extra if you go with the Uber pool option. This is where you share a ride with other people going to a similar destination you are. You might arrive at your destination a little later, but you will save a few bucks which adds up over time!

Airbnb

After camping, Airbnb is our favorite way to lodge. It is less expensive and a bit more cultural than a hotel. Sometimes you can get a place that you have to yourself and other times you can stay with a host. Especially when traveling to a place you’ve never been, it can be fun to stay with a host, so you can get recommendations from a local!

Expedia

This is a good trip planning app for flights, hotels, car rentals, etc. They have lots of package deals to help you save. If you sign up for their rewards program, you can get extra deals as well!

HotelTonight

This is a great app for getting last minute deals on hotels. Adam and I have gotten some awesome room prices because hotels want to fill there vacancies every night!

SpotHero

SpotHero is an app to help you find parking and reserve it in major cities. We have found it to be very helpful and easy to use. It takes a lot of stress out of looking on your own!

GetYourGuide

If you are planning to do some exploring of a big city, this app is helpful for finding a tour guide for whatever type of thing strikes your fancy!

Eurail

If you are doing a Eurotrip, we highly recommend using the Eurail to save on transportation costs between cities. This app is helpful for navigating once you are in Europe!
